March was a miserable month in terms of weather. We had snow and rain and fog, everything but sun. Add to that my final term coursework deadlines for university and I wasn’t left with a lot of time to go on many non-ordinary walks with Luna. I feel like I am making excuses for my lack of walking material. I guess I am just disappointed that I didn’t manage to fit in more of the walks that I want to do, but the two walks that I did manage to fit in were very enjoyable and worthwhile. I feel like I’m going to say that about every walk ever because walking is just one of the best things there is, especially with a dog.

Walk ~ 1 mile ~ 30 minutes ~ Easy ~ Near Cheddar Gorge, Somerset
This was a great walk, with incredible views and a scenic drive to get there through Cheddar Gorge. Luna enjoyed all of the mud, so I know that she liked the walk. A runner snuck up on us while I was trying to get a picture of Luna in front of Black Rock, luckily he didn’t mind dogs as she strolled over to say hello to him as soon as she saw him, not giving me a chance to put her lead on like I normally would. I want to go back to the Gorge in the future, but I will probably not be repeating this exact walk, due to its short length. I was left wishing that it was a bit longer and so I think that all of our walks in future will be longer than this one, except from a couple which I really want to try out purely because they are so close and the cost of petrol is therefore worth it.
Favourite moment of the walk – Luna could not get over a stile built into a wall on her own and so instead just sat on the other side.
Compton Down and Melbury Beacon
Walk ~ 2.6 miles ~ 1 hour 15 minutes ~ Easy ~ Near Shaftesbury, Dorset
A lovely walk in the same area as the shorter walk at Fontmell Down which we did in February. I much preferred this walk to the one at Fontmell Down, partly because it was longer but also because there was a trig point on Melbury Hill. Luna and I bagged our first trig point here together. We took one of my friends along with us, which made the walk far more entertaining, especially when she was trying to escape Luna. There were some very overgrown thorny bushes encroaching upon some of the path, so it was fun getting poked by those, but there were some great views from the trig point across Dorset, despite a layer of fog which refused to shift.
Favourite moment of the walk – Luna started chasing her trail on a steep hill and almost fell over.
